Cristiano Ronaldo has added his voice to those of the common people, eco-friendly organizations and few celebrities mourning the destruction of the Amazon Rainforest. It is believed that the fire is man-made for the sake of business profits against the protection of Mother Nature and the rights of indigenous tribes in Brazil.
The disaster has, surprisingly, not received much coverage in the past three weeks. Thanks to social media, the alarm is finally ringing louder.
“The Amazon Rainforest produces more than 20% of the world’s oxygen and it’s been burning for the past 3 weeks,” Cristiano Ronaldo’s tweet to his 79.4 million Twitter followers reads. “It’s our responsibility to help to save our planet,” it concludes with the trending hashtag #prayforamazonia.
Whilst CNN reports that multiple pictures making rounds on the internet are not actual footage from the on-going Amazon rainforest fire, it is not clear whether the image tweeted by CR7 is a correct one. Regardless, the major factor remains spreading awareness and saving what’s left.
