A stitch in time saves nine… a generous gesture from Ronaldo has prevented a dog kennel from closure.
It is said that dogs are man’s best friends, and the Real Madrid superstar’s latest action has proved this cliche to be unfeigned. According to Portuguese news outlet Correio de Mahna, the iconic number 7 donated a signed jersey to be auctioned off in order to raise enough funds to keep a dog shelter in business.
The Cantinho da Lili which is situated in Gouveia, a town in the north-east of Lisbon, provides housing and treatment for dogs. It was threatened to be shut down after the owner could no longer afford to run the organization catering for 80 dogs because of rising expenditure. Then Ronaldo stepped in to save the day, as he so often does it on the field of play.
It is understood that a volunteer working at the place helped out thanks to links with Ronaldo’s extended family. CR7 was then informed about the grievances at the Cantinho da Lili and accepted to lend a hand. Speaking to the Portuguese paper, owner Liliana Santos was full of gratitude to the Madeira-born star:
“I want to thank Ronaldo from the bottom of my heart.
“It’s a simple gesture, but very important.”
The money may even be enough to cater for even more dogs.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a dog lover!
The father of one, who turned 32 last Sunday, has been involved in various humanitarian and charitable works since his rise to prominence. Just last December, the ambassador of the London-based Save the Children international organization made a donation to refugees from war-ravaged Aleppo, Syria.
The 2015 World’s Most Charitable Athlete asked the organization not to discuss the details of the kind gesture. However, it is believed that the sum involved is quite huge to cater for numerous families in the war zone. Over the years, the ex-Manchester United player has selflessly used his voice and platform to help crisis zones whenever the need be.
