Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Los Blancos teammate Xabi Alonso named the Portuguese as the attacking spearhead in his 5-a-side team.
It is quite sad we wouldn’t be seeing much of the 35-year-old in football considering he announced his retirement after winning the Bundesliga with the German heavyweights. In an interview with the online publication KICK, Alonso’s interrogator asked him to pick a 5-a-side team of the players he’s played with.
“Wow. We will try. We will start with a keeper.
“So we will start with Manu. Manuel Neuer in goal.
“I need a defender. A proper defender. I think Sergio Ramos can do the job,” the former Real Madrid and Liverpool man added.
“Midfielder partner with me? We will go with Steven Gerrard.
“And a striker, I think the one that scores the goals is Cristiano Ronaldo. That’s the one.”
Now that’s certainly ‘squad goals’, provided Steven Gerrard will not slip at any point in the game! What are your thoughts on Alonso’s 5-a-side selection? Do you think you can name a better side? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
