Football is Cristiano’s wife; Junior & twins, his legacy

Cristiano Ronaldo is recognized as the best player in the world at the moment but he may as well be football family’s greatest role model.

A few hours after his nation Portugal was defeated by Chile in the semi-final of the FIFA Confederations Cup, the skipper of the European champions took it upon himself to restore the radiance that had departed from the faces of his well-wishers.

The 32-year-old striker finally dropped the piece of news his eager fans have been craving to hear for months now—the arrival of his twins. Cristiano Ronaldo revealed the identities of the pair as a boy and a girl just as reports that initially suggested.

Ronaldo's statement

Cristiano Ronaldo’s statement above reads in English as follows:

“I was in the service of the national team, as it always happens, body and soul, even though I knew my two children were born.

“Unfortunately, we have not been able to achieve the main sporting objective we wanted, but I am sure we will continue to make the Portuguese nation happy.

“The President of the Portuguese Football Federation and the national team coach had an attitude today that sensitized me and I will never forget.

“I am very happy to finally be able to be with my children for the first time.”

One interesting factor about all of Cristiano Ronaldo’s children is that they all tend to arrive while the Portuguese superstar is away on international duty. Seven years ago Cristiano Jr was born on June 17, a time when his father was leading Portugal at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Nevertheless, the Real Madrid superstar who was eager to meet his mini-self for the very first time declared that his first son’s arrival “changed everything”.

“A person who has your blood. It’s unbelievable. It’s a great feeling,” Ronaldo was quoted to have said by Mirror.

“My friends ask me if I want more kids and I always say yes. I want more. It’s the best thing you can have in your life.”

Well, he’s actually fulfilled his long-time wish of expanding his family with not one, but two new additions.

In truth, family means a lot to Cristiano Ronaldo, and his relationship with his mother, his son Cristiano Jr, as well as his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, can very much attest to that. Nonetheless, although it might sound quite unorthodox, football is more or less the first love of the favorite son of Madeira.

Living in the not-so-glamorous vicinity of Funchal, the boy who has grown up to become the most famous sports personality on the planet barely savored the pleasure of being in a nonbelligerent and loving society. Withal, his mother always had his back even after his father returned as an alcoholic following his enlistment to fight in a war in Africa.

Of course, Jose Dinis Aveiro always tried to be there for his son amid his struggles, and Cristiano Ronaldo holds him dear to his heart for such effort and support he displayed. However, all he had at that time was his football and it has been so till date. It was football that separated him from his real family to join the Sporting C.P. Academy in Lisbon at a very tender age.

Just like any affectionate husband, Ronaldo’s passion, drive, and sense of belonging were in the sport. It was his desire to be the best in the game that has made him the man he is today. Even when he impressed Sir Alex Ferguson before his life-changing move to a land with a different culture, all he had was a ball at his feet.

With the language barrier, Manchester’s unfriendly climate, among other challenges, his love for the game, eventually, made him a conqueror. It was this same intimacy with the game which spurred him on and has immortalized him at Real Madrid after moving away from the English heavyweights.

As a result, it is not the least surprising that a player as responsible as Cristiano Ronaldo missed the precious moment of the birth of his children in order to help his nation make history in the Confederations Cup. I’m highly convinced there is only a handful of men who will actually pull-off anything of this kind.

Of course, family still plays a very important role in his life. They are the very reason he’s working so hard in the first place. What is really satisfying is the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo could retire at any time knowing the heights he’s achieved for himself and his family.

At the moment, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr looks like one who could take over the mantle and continue flying the name Aveiro Dos Santos when his father retires. And if he indeed chooses to become a pro, he will be more than fortunate enough to have the greatest-ever player in his corner to groom him.
