In that regard, Ronaldo’s double strike in tonight’s game meant he is now the first-ever player to have scored at least a goal in 70 different matches. The closest competitor is, of course, Lionel Messi who has managed to get on the scoresheet in only 59 games.

You would have probably been laughed at if you had predicted Cristiano Ronaldo will reach the number above when he first joined Real Madrid in 2009 considering the challenges he initially faced. Eight years down the road and here we are.

Aside the fact that he’s just two hat-tricks away from reaching a century of Champions League goals for Real Madrid, the other admirable feature about his tally is the dispensation in other categories. His fulfillment for Los Blancos in the European competition includes 25 assists and 7 hattricks.

Obviously, he is still Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer in the UEFA Champions League with his closest competitor being Raul Gonzalez (71).
