Cristiano Ronaldo is in the 2017 Guinness World Records book. The Real Madrid star, heavily followed on Twitter, is up there with other great names.

Which athlete can dethrone Cristiano Ronaldo on Twitter? Apparently, no-one. Earlier in September, the Portuguese superstar was celebrating two years since becoming the athlete with the most Twitter followers.

  • September 2014: Ronaldo hits 25M followers landmark
  • September 2016: Ronaldo counts over 46.1M followers
  • 7 October 2016: Ronaldo enters the Guinness World Records book (again) with 47,262,909 followers. That’s over 1.1M new Twitter followers in the past month. Huge!
  • 12 October 2016: Ronaldo adds 200K more fans

Other notable football achievements include that of Leicester City. The Foxes recorded the biggest jump in consecutive seasons in the English Premier League, going from 14th in 2014/15 to 1st in 2015/2016.

There is also ex-Chelsea goalkeeper and current Arsenal shot-stopper Petr Cech. The retired Czech Republic international, against whom Ronaldo has scored a number of vital goals such as his header for Manchester United in the 2008 UEFA Champions League final, possesses the highest number of EPL clean sheets (181). Gareth Barry, meanwhile, as started more Premier League matches than any other player. His 580 starts put him alongside CR7 in the 2017 Guinness World Records Books.
