Neymar is currently the king of assists in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League but Cristiano Ronaldo may soon dethrone the Brazilian.
As noted earlier this month by our columnist Brian Brown, Cristiano Ronaldo is indeed reinventing himself. In Europe, he is showcasing his collective abilities. Despite counting only two goals in his bag, he is still impacting Los Blancos’ matches.
Napoli should thank Karim Benzema and Marcelo for missing clear chances created by Ronaldo. The latter could well have left the field with no less than three assists in his name!

As things stand, however, he has five — just two less than the departing Neymar. Cristiano Ronaldo fans will be hoping that Di Maria and PSG cripple Barcelona, yet again, in the second leg. If the Parisian club emulates Bayern Munich’s famous “7up” two-legged triumph over the Catalans, CR7’s mission to finish the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League campaign as the top assist-maker would become easier.
FACT: No player has been more generous that Cristiano Ronaldo (16 assists) in the past four Champions League seasons.

Of course, being who he is, the all-time UEFA Champions League topscorer still wants to add to his 95 goals tally. After all, he is in a tight race against Lionel Messi to become the first player to hit 100 UCL goals. At times, like during the last half an hour against Napoli on Wednesday night, Ronaldo gets desperate. Rage gets the better of him while luck evades his strikes. That’s a good sign, though.
The 32-year-old is constantly knocking on doors and Napoli should be scared! The return leg in Italy could just be the breakthrough Cristiano has been praying for in Europe, this season.
