Ronaldo’s 509th goal in his 700th career game wasn’t enough to help Real Madrid accomplish their mission of opening a four-point gap atop La Liga.
The visitors had a tall mountain to climb after going two goals down to hosts Valencia in the first 10 minutes of proceedings. Despite suffering a shock 2:1 loss in the end, Los Merengues’ number 7 shirted man achieved another landmark.
Cristiano Ronaldo got on the end of a Marcelo cross in the dying minutes of the first half to score his 15th goal of the season in his 700th career game. Before the game, the 32-year-old had scored 508 and assisted 168 times.

Cristiano Ronaldo adds to his tally of #LaLigaSantander goals this season…

Ronaldo’s 44th-minute goal was his 44th headed goal in a Real Madrid shirt. He extended his tally against Los Che to 12 in all competitions. Club legend Di Stefano is the only player to have scored more against the southeastern team (13). Also, Los Blancos have now registered 15 headed goals this season, the most by any team in Europe’s top five leagues.
However, the goal will mean little to the four-time Ballon d’Or winner who was aiming for a win for his side. Still, the Spanish giants’ quest to win the league title isn’t over just yet.
Real Madrid will travel to the Baladios to face a stubborn Celta Vigo side in the last of their two outstanding games. It is a must-win fixture for the European champions since La Liga is their priority this season.
But first, numerous tough games await Zinedine Zidane and his squad:
26/2 [A] Villarreal
1/3 [H] Palmas
4/3 [A] Eibar
7/3 [A] Napoli
12/3 [H] Betis
19/3 [A] Athletic
2/4 [H] Alaves
5/4 [A] Leganes
