Ronaldo returns to Madeira as Portugal hosts Sweden

The tickets for the Portugal-Sweden game, upon the news of Ronaldo featuring for the nation team, were all sold out months ago.

After 16 years of not playing a single game in Madeira, the Seleccao return to host Sweden in a friendly, and what other way to do it than with the most illustrious son of the island. It is therefore understandable if the tickets for the game were sold out just a few hours after they were released to be purchased by the public some months ago.

According to rumors, some of the tickets are available on e-commerce websites such as OLX but only acquirable for at least three-four times their normal price. The match against Sweden is scheduled to take place at the Maritimo Stadium in Funchal, Madeira.

After humiliating Hungary in Saturday’s 3:0 win, Fernando Santos’ men are currently brimming with confidence. The Seleccao partook in their final training session ahead of the friendly game with their Swedish counterparts. And as anticipated, Madeira’s favorite son Cristiano Ronaldo was pictured alongside his teammates.

A goal against Sweden will bump the Real Madrid ace’s international tally to 71, placing him level in third position with Miroslav Klose on Europe’s top international goalscorers list.

This will consequently cap a fine international break for the former Sporting C.P prodigy, who is getting his home island’s airport renamed after him. The official unveiling of the Cristiano Ronaldo Airport will also take place on Wednesday, March 29 in Funchal, Madeira.
