Just when you thought his head wouldn’t get any bigger, this happens! Cristiano Ronaldo now has an international airport named after him.
The Portuguese skipper was joined by dignitaries and hundreds of guests and fans from all over the world in his hometown island of Madeira for the official unveiling of the Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo.
Below are some pictures from the occasion.
Present at the event were Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Prime Minister Antonio Costa. The heads of the state were conferred the honor to unveil a commemorative plaque. A new bust of Cristiano Ronaldo was also unconcealed at the ceremony.
The four-time Ballon d’Or winner is now the only living footballer to have an airport named after him. The only player who can boast of such immortality is the late George Best. The Manchester United legend had an airport in Northern Ireland renamed the George Best Belfast City Airport in 2006.
