Ronaldo’s rape case: dirty German media tactics?

Cristiano Ronaldo rape allegations

It was all fun and games until Der Spiegel decided to bring guns and tanks to a boxing match.

If you are unaware, the German newspaper published a long article regarding an alleged rape case involving Cristiano Ronaldo and an unnamed woman back in 2009. The article was “coincidentally” published two days after Ronaldo’s heroics at the Allianz Arena. It cited that the Real Madrid superstar allegedly paid £300,000 to the victim in return for her silence on the matter. How convenient!

Ronaldo’s representatives, Gestifute, founded and headed by his agent Jorge Mendes have since called Der Spiegel’s article “a piece of journalistic fiction.”
The statement read:

“Today, the German newspaper Der Spiegel published a long article regarding an alleged accusation of rape that would have been directed at Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, i.e. about 8 years ago.

“The article is nothing but a piece of journalistic fiction.

“The alleged victim refuses to come forward and confirm the veracity of the accusation. The newspaper has based their entire narrative on documents which are unsigned and where the parties are not identified, on emails between lawyers whose content does not concern Cristiano Ronaldo and whose authenticity he cannot verify, and on an alleged letter that is said to have been sent to him by the so-called victim, but was never received by Cristiano.

“The accusations reported by the Der Spiegel are false, and Cristiano Ronaldo will do everything in his power to react against these. An accusation of an act of rape is disgusting and outraging, and he will not allow it to hang over his reputation.”

Gestifute, owned by Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes have debunked the accusations against the Portuguese striker

Now to our take on the ludicrous claims.

First of all, does anyone seriously think if Cristiano Ronaldo, one the most recognizable sports icons in the world, was accused of rape 8 years ago multiple news outlets wouldn’t have heard of the story and ran with it? Isn’t it surprising considering we are in an era where social media is at the peak of its powers? In the borrowed words of a friend, “it isn’t relevant if we don’t get a hashtag!”

“So only Der Spiegel got the intel on an alleged rape case I’m involved in? Ok…”

The only plausible scenario that will explain this level of ignorance and naivety showcased by almost the whole world of journalism towards such a huge saga will be because an unlikely DC Comics collaboration of Batman and Joker, which saw the former hitting cell towers before the news could make it online whiles the latter used a brainwashing device to erase the information from the minds of people with fore-knowledge. But that did not happen, did it?

“Hey Batman, seen this?”

That withstanding, Der Spiegel is quite notable for publishing scandalous articles that usually emanates around heavyweights in sports. Yeah, their obsession with big fishes is real! Their revelations include transfer fee leaks, drugs, doping and tax evasion among other football leaks that attract attention. There is even a piece on their website which, once again, mentions Ronaldo and his former manager, Jose Mourinho in a tax evasion probe.

It hasn’t been long since the duo, who are clients of Jorge Mendes, were accused of illegally using shell companies in the Caribbean to collect their tax-free earnings. The unfounded allegations have magically disappeared from front pages after Mendes’s company, Gestifute, explained the legitimacy of the money transfers and agreed to cooperate with the authorities by handing over every paper trail involved. What happened to seeking and reporting the truth and the truth only in Journalism Ethics 101?

Verdict:

Cristiano Ronaldo may not be a saint but he isn’t the devil either, at least not from our perspective. Aside some of his questionable antics on and off-field, the Real Madrid striker is one with a big heart, revered and admired genuine football fans.

Is anyone capable of being a perpetrator and victim of rape? Yes, of course! Could Ronaldo have done what Der Spiegel is accusing him of? That, we at C.Ronaldo Daily, exceedingly doubt. We doubt a family man with great values and respect for women would be a doer of such an act.

We doubt someone who witnessed his father beat up and more often than not abuse his mother will experience joy in doing the exact thing his younger-self hated seeing a woman go through. We doubt an advocator and ambassador for genuine humanitarian causes across the entire globe will find pleasure in doing the opposite of everything his work stands for.

If these claims by Der Spiegel are just mere propaganda to unsettle Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the Champions League fixture against Bayern, then the game we all love and cherish is losing its core values. Such practices could be curbed if the proper actions are taken against these atrocities. Der Spiegel and its likes are filled with well-dressed gold diggers, and they better find another source to get their paychecks as their actions have no place in football.

By the way, nice try but Bayern is still falling at the Bernabeu on Tuesday. Ronaldo might probably land a record-setting hat-trick to hang a giant ‘L’ on the necks of his German antagonists.
