So who will get the 6th Champions League Golden Boot title? Ronaldo counts a 1-goal deficit behind Lionel Messi in the race, ahead of the 2017 UCL Final.
The world will stop on Saturday evening as football fans stay glued to their seats despite time differences around the globe. An intense 90 minutes full of fun, passion, bragging rights, joy and of course sadness will fill a million hearts as the Beautiful Game draws fans closer once again. The center of attraction, of importance, of glory and supremacy, will be the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
Star man Cristiano Ronaldo will lead his strong and more experienced Real Madrid squad as they clash with Juventus in this season’s UEFA Champions League final with the target of being the first side to defend the trophy since its name change in 1992.
But hey, it’s a fact that trophies come with wins, wins come with goals, and goals come from… CRISTIANO RONALDO!
Advantage Ronaldo, given that he has a fine record against Gianluigi Buffon:

With 10 goals to his name this season and currently trailing Barcelona’s Lionel Messi by a single strike, Ronaldo is set for another Champions League Golden Boot challenge. A triumph would further tighten the star’s grip on the Ballon d’Or and Best FIFA Men’s Player awards.

Ronaldo currently has five Golden Boot awards from his numerous UEFA Champions League campaigns. He won his first one in 2007-08 with Manchester United. He went on to win four more with Real Madrid in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 (joint with Messi and Neymar on 10 goals) and 2015-16.
If Ronaldo maintains his deadly form, he will surely make it 6-5 against Messi…

So as Real Madrid gets set for battle against Juventus, the King will have his eyes also set on being the 2016-17 Champions League top scorer. But what would this mean in Ronaldo’s career?
As seen above, the current holders of the record for most UEFA Champions League Golden Boots are Cristiano Ronaldo and adversary Lionel Messi. This explains that another Golden Boot win courtesy two goals in Cardiff against Juventus guarantees the Portuguese star the record for most Champions League Golden Boots since the tournament’s inception in 1955.
The last years of the UEFA Champions League have been Ronaldo’s definition of hard work after breaking Messi’s four in a row dominance in the 2012-13 campaign with 12 goals. Ronaldo went on to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or that year, although Los Blancos lost in the semifinals to German side Borussia Dortmund.
“GOAL-naldo” is usually in the final shortlist for annual awards because he can be found at the bright section of every season whether he grabs trophies or ends with individual achievements.
Guess who’s around? Ronaldo celebrates his hat-trick in Real’s 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the semis.
A look at whenever Cristiano has missed out on the UCL Golden Boot
Since clinching his first UCL topscorer prize as a Red Devil, Cristiano Ronaldo has missed out on the award four times. Those were the times when Messi claimed victory four times in a row in the goal king race.
Other than that, Ronaldo has been the clear winner at the exception of the 2014/15 season where he had to share the individual title with eventual Champions League winners Messi and Neymar.
2008/09: Messi* 9-4 Ronaldo
2009/10: Messi 8-7 Ronaldo
2010/11: Messi* 12-6 Ronaldo
2011/12: Messi 14-10 Ronaldo
*Champions League title triumph as well
Cristiano Ronaldo fans, be confident ahead of the 2017 Champions League final vs Juventus
Ronaldo has great memories of the Principality Stadium as it was the venue where he scored two goals for Real Madrid in the 2014 UEFA Super Cup win over Spanish side Sevilla.
Good luck, champ!
