The subject in description goes by the name Miguel José Paixão dos Santos. Born on the 14th of March 1984 in the Portuguese town of Vila Real de Santo António, Miguel had a dream. His dream was simple; to make a name for himself and reach the very summit of the game he loves; the game we all love – football.

It was this passion and determination which spurred him on a 204-mile journey from his hometown to Lisbon, where an encounter with a young Cristiano Ronaldo would change his life forever. Miguel, an attacking midfielder in his playing days, met the Real Madrid winger for the first time upon his arrival at Sporting CP’s youth team from Madeira-based Clube Desportivo Nacional in 1997.

Indeed, they go a long way back. Both players were denizens of Room 34 at the Residencial D. José, a hostel in Lisbon where they lived and attended training from. Their bond grew stronger over time to the extent that even when Cristiano Ronaldo was promoted to the senior team and, eventually, left for Manchester United, communication between them didn’t cease.

“Our friendship grew and even when he went to Man United, we talked almost every day,” Miguel told Portuguese paper Record in 2015.

Following Ronaldo’s departure to Manchester in 2003, Miguel continued playing, although he failed to make it into top-flight football. The sides he featured for include Sporting CP’s youth teams, SC Farense, GD Beira-Mar Algarve, CD Portosantense, FC Barreirense, União de Leiria, CD Fátima, Clube Oriental Lissabon and SC União Torreense, all in Portugal.

However, he retired in 2015 at the age of 31 with 11 goals in 112 appearances, after he came up with a genius idea to help the CR7 brand expand. The CR7 Museum already existed at the time as it was opened to the public on December 13, 2013, so this is what Miguel said about his proposal to aid the establishment to thrive:

“One day, during a dinner party, this opportunity arose and I did not hesitate,” Miguel Paixao said in the exclusive interview with Record.

“As not all the people can go to Madeira to see the trophies and the legacy of Cristiano, we thought about creating an itinerant museum and here we are.

“It’s a privilege to show people the other side of Cristiano.

“I always agree with the greatest desire to come to work and I can say that I’m as happy here as he is at Real Madrid. Because of him, I’m traveling to the ends of the world!”

His idea was implemented and a ‘movable replica’ of the Museu CR7 appeared in Portuguese cities Algarve and Lisbon, as well as Qatar and China, to give fans the full experience of the museum without traveling to Madeira.

But, Miguel Paixao does more than just museum work for Cristiano Ronaldo. In fact, he is also the brain behind the Real Madrid star’s CR7 Footwear franchise. Here is Miguel wearing a pair of this year’s edition of the CR7 Chelsea boots:

In regards to extra-curricular activities, the former Sporting academy product also helps out the Portuguese skipper whenever he can. In 2015, he represented Cristiano at the XX Golden Globes Gala, where he picked up the forward’s seventh Best Male Sportsman award. He was also present at the 2017 Cinco Estrelas event where the Pestana-CR7 Hotel received a prize.

It’s been quite a journey for both athletes as they have pushed on against all odds to realize their dreams in their own special ways. Miguel, alongside Ricardo, may not make appearances on television as often as Ronaldo does but their work in the background has really been invaluable to the iconic number 7.

The bond they have is very rare and with that, they have contributed greatly to the success of Ronaldo’s off-field businesses while he continues on his journey to attain immortality in football. They celebrate together in each other’s successes, likewise, they stay together in their grievances. And that, is exactly what real friendship is about.

Everybody needs a Ricardo and a Miguel!

Parabéns bro👏👌🎂🎉🥂
