VIDEO: Ronaldo gestures Kroos is ‘TOO GOOD’

Toni Kroos and Cristiano Ronaldo during UEFA Super Cup 2017

When Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t play he is still animated on the touchline. Just like a coach…

Cristiano Ronaldo was made to start from the bench for the first time since January 2015, during the UEFA Super Cup tie against Manchester United in Macedonia. Remarkably, Carlo Ancelotti was the last manager to leave Ronaldo out on the bench. This happened in a Copa Del Rey Last 16 match against city rivals Atletico Madrid. Ronaldo came on as a 63rd-minute substitute for James Rodriguez as Los Blancos suffered an eventual 2-0 defeat.

Under Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo has never been left out of the starting lineup when called upon in the squad. The Portuguese international was handed an extended summer holiday after featuring for Portugal at the Confederations Cup in Russia. He missed the pre-season tour of the team in the U.S. and only returned a few days prior to the game in Macedonia, Skopje.

Ronaldo showed glimpses of his coaching abilities — yet again, after what spectators could witness during the UEFA Euro 2016 final.

The 32-year old didn’t hesitate to grab bottles of water for his teammates during their short break and was caught on camera issuing a few instructions to the players and urging them on. The most notable gesture was his “wink” at teammate Toni Kroos who was excellent on the night with his 96% accuracy rate out of 76 passes — up to 30 more than any Red Devil on the pitch.

Toni’s ability to find teammates with his inch-perfect passes was recognized by the Real Madrid talisman. Cristiano Ronaldo came on in the 83rd minute to loud cheers from both sets of fans. Real Madrid ensured a 2-1 victory over their English opponents and flew home with their third UEFA Super Cup title in four years.
