The top marksman is currently serving a five-match ban and will use the game to warm up for the season.
Cristiano Ronaldo will enjoy the full 90 minutes of the Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu game against Fiorentina on Wednesday. With a long season ahead, manager Zinedine Zidane wants to hand less used players like the 32-year-old attacker more minutes against La Viola.
The super celebrity’s five-match ban will end on September 17 as Real Madrid travel to Real Sociedad. The winger’s hopes of having the verdict overturned hit the rocks after Spain’s administrative court for sports (TAD) rejected an appeal from his club.
The French gaffer therefore wants to have his talisman in full gear before his first competitive encounter and the Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu showdown is a perfect one for keeping CR7 in top form.
“We are in good shape and there are players like Cristiano Ronaldo who will play the full 90 minutes. We are aiming for a good performance because the trophy must remain here,” Zidane told RealMadrid TV in an interview ahead of the match.
With the Portuguese icon fully involved, Real Madrid’s wish of winning their 27th Santiago Bernabeu title will enjoy a tremendous rise. The team legend’s eagerness to play will be evident against the Florence based outfit.
This will be Ronaldo’s first full 90 minutes test and his initial start this season. The four-time Ballon d’Or holder’s last was against Juventus in the 2016/17 UCL final. That said, Cristiano will be poised to do what he loves best; play like a King and of course, score goals!
The #TrofeoSantiagoBernabeu will represent Ronaldo's FIRST full match at club level in 81 days.
