Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu: CR7 lauded by Zidane & teammates

Borja Celebrates with Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo was in the spotlight once again after his splendid performance for Real Madrid in the Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu clash with Fiorentina.

The Portuguese forward’s heroics in his first full debut this season ensured that the commemorative Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu stayed with the Whites ahead of the new season. Having gone down as early as the 4th-minute, the iconic forward instigated Real Madrid’s insurgency by providing the assist for the leveler.

About 30 minutes later, the world’s best player reemphasized his status via a spectacular long-range effort to put his side 2:1 up; an outcome that endured until the final whistle. Addressing the media after the final whistle his manager, Zinedine Zidane, promptly acknowledged his talisman’s impact in the game while looking forward to the weekend’s match-up with Valencia.

“We got what we were looking for. Those who do not get many minutes played more.

“Players such as Asensio, Ceballos, and Cristiano need this kind of game.

His [Cristiano’s] goal? That is what he is capable of and we are happy to have him here.

Cristiano Ronaldo all-smiles after his side’s victory.

“Today we are going to rest. From tomorrow, we will prepare for the game against Valencia.”

Real Madrid academy graduate, Achraf, who played the full 90 minutes for the European champions in the right-back position, also cited that the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo played a vital role in him opting to stay at the club.

“Playing at the Bernabeu is something I dreamed about as a kid. It’s incredible to make it happen.

“The team has been very good. They have helped me in everything.

“I am very happy with the result. Zidane gives us confidence.

“The season is very long but we are all at his disposal.

“With regards to Cristiano, he doesn’t have to prove anything.

“He shows in every game and training that he is the best.

Achraf and co join Ronaldo to celebrate his stunner.

“That’s why since the beginning I have wanted to stay here at Real Madrid.”

Next on the list, was Real Madrid’s first goalscorer Borja Mayoral:

“I am very proud to be a part of this team.

“My goal? Marco [Asensio] gave the ball to Cris [Ronaldo] and whenever he has the ball in the area something happens.

“I just had to push it in but I am happy.

“He’s a huge player who keeps making history.”

Real Madrid will host Valencia in their second game of this season’s league campaign. However, the in-form Cristiano Ronaldo will be unavailable to feature having seen an appeal for the reduction of his 5-match ban merited in the Spanish Super Cup invalidated.
