The Chelsea attacker is expected to have his first competitive minutes in Belgium’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Gibraltar on Thursday.

Eden Hazard has commended Cristiano Ronaldo for choosing him as a potential successor for the UEFA Best Player of the Year award. The Real Madrid star named the Blues winger among other budding talents after scooping the crown despite competition from Barcelona Lionel Messi and Juventus Gianluigi Buffon.

Speaking to HLN , the 26-year-old forward expressed utmost respect for the Portuguese skipper.

“Ronaldo mentioning me as one of his heirs shows he knows a lot about football. It’s good to hear someone like Ronaldo say great stuff about me.”

He added:

“He is one of the best players in the world, maybe even the best. It motivates me to do more as a footballer.”

Such recognition from a superstar like Cristiano will certainly inspire Hazard. The one-time Premier League Player of the Year winner will be yearning for success with Chelsea eager to defend their league title.
