Former Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado feels the Portuguese star will equal Lionel Messi’s five Ballon d’Or victories.
No doubt! Cristiano Ronaldo hopes to scoop all individual medals after a spectacular 2016/17 season. Ronaldo already has one in the bag; the 2017 UEFA Best Player of the Year award despite competition from Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus.
Now the 41-year-old former Los Blancos right back making his choice on who deserves the 2017 Ballon d’Or award had this to say:
“They are both fantastic lads. The fact that we have both talents playing at a top level in this era is something that should be enjoyed,” Salgado told AS.
“But what matters is what Ronaldo has done and that’s for drawing level on five Ballon d’Or titles with Messi because he will win the next one. It’s incredible because Leo has technical qualities but Cristiano is absolutely magical.”
Interestingly, CR7 trailed Messi 1-4 on the globally acclaimed trophy by 2013. However, the Madeira born legend is now one win away from recording a 5-5 score in the exciting battle for supremacy between the two greats.
