Ronaldo convinces Madonna to make her son join Sporting

The Pop singer has reportedly rejected the superstar’s advice for her son to join Sporting Club de Futbol.

Ronaldo came through the youth system at Sporting after joining at just 12 years of age. He went on trial at the club and with his brilliant technical abilities, he was signed for £1,500 in 1997.

The Madeira-born talent went on to become the first player to play for the club’s under-16, under-17 and under-18 teams, the B-team and the first team, all within one season. Cristiano made significant improvement in his career during his time with the Leões before signing for Manchester United in 2003.

According to AS, the UEFA Best Player tried to persuade the songwriter to make her adopted son join Sporting Lisbon instead of fierce city rivals Benfica. The teenager impressed in a trial and a youth tournament to attract interest from the Primeira Liga champions.

The Real Madrid superstar reportedly tried to convince Madonna personally via a phone call but the 11-year-old’s mother refused the plea. David Banda has since joined the Eagles with the singer moving to the capital permanently to offer her support as she sees the youngster making significant progress in his early career.

The Iberian winger still holds the teenage club in high regard and is gearing up to persuade other Portuguese young talents to sign for the green and whites.
