Following the 33rd birthday of Cristiano Ronaldo, we take a peek into what has been a fulfilling life so far for one of football’s greatest-ever players.
Many played the beautiful game and gained worldwide recognition by barely achieving a quarter of what the Portuguese superstar has so far. Even that withstanding, Cristiano’s burning desire to defy the odds and achieve the unprecedented is what makes him unique among most of these legends.
Starting out on the streets of Madeira as a young boy, the heights he has attained so far were just a fickle of his wild imagination. Yet, here we are. Should he retire from the sport anytime soon, his legacy on and off the field of play will undoubtedly live on for generations and centuries to come.
Ronaldo’s football legacy in his youth & senior careers
“You had to watch him so carefully, and at one point, he put the ball through my legs, and all I could do was bring him down.” These were the words of John O’Shea to Bleacher Report on that fateful day he came up against a 17-year-old Cristiano as his Manchester United side was thrashed 3-1 by Sporting back in 2003.
It was simply the defining moment in the career of the boy from Madeira who completed a quick-fire move to Old Trafford a few days later. After a rather slow start, the prolific winger hit the ground running and rewarded Sir Alex Ferguson’s faith in him with scintillating performances.
Contributing to the successes of the Manchester club and winning his first Ballon d’Or in 2008 as well as FIFA’s inaugural Puskas Award in 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo ended his chapter with the Red Devils with a total of 118 goals in 292 appearances.
A new era dawned upon completing his dream move to Real Madrid. And again, he justified the hefty price-tag on his shoulder having fired Los Blancos to three Champions League trophies and two La Liga feats.
Along the way, he has amassed four more Ballon d’Ors and The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year trophies in two consecutive years to cement his “G.O.A.T” status. And oh, you can’t forget his efforts in winning the EURO 2016 for Portugal!
Ronaldo’s business empire building moments
Like a great man once said: “To get dividends from life, invest in yourself.” With the bigger picture of feeling accomplished and providing for his family off the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo has, over the years, made tactful investments.
His first-ever venture was his fashion boutique under the name “CR7” which he opened in his home island of Madeira, back in 2006. The Portuguese superstar, with his growing popularity, further expanded it to Lisbon two years later.
With the undertaking having attracted encouraging patronage, the Real Madrid star has gone global by introducing his own clothing line, fragrance, footwear, blankets, underwear, fragrances and many other popular products in the world of fashion.
But that is certainly not all. There is also the CR7 Crunch Fitness Gym, the rapidly expanding Pestana CR7 Lifestyle hotels, Museu CR7, 7EGEND, as well as the co-ownership of the TATEL Restaurant with Rafael Nadal and co.
With all the above withstanding, another significant moment in what has been an illustrious life for Cristiano Ronaldo was when he was awarded a $1 billion lifetime deal by Nike. Later on, the iconic No. 7 embarked on a three-day tour sponsored by the footwear giant to China, where he wowed his fans and the next generation of Chinese footballers.
Outside of his personal profit-making ventures, the five-Ballon d’Or winner has also had his relentless efforts for his nation rewarded by havign the airport in Madeira named after him.
Ronaldo’s best family moments: Good son, good dad
After losing his father at the time when his career was shaping out nicely, there was only one thing Cristiano Ronaldo had to do: be a better man and honor his old man. That is exactly what the son of the Portuguese war veteran has turned into over the years.
Family is very important to Ronaldo considering it was their belief in his talent that has gotten him this far. As such, there was no way he was going to turn his back on his mother when she needed breast cancer treatment or his big brother Hugo when he was battling heavy drinking and substance abuse.
As a father, he has done an amazing job so far by raising his first son Cristiano Jr. with the help of his mother. The year 2017 also saw him welcoming the twins, Eva and Mateo, and Alana Martina.
The joy of it all is that Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn’t have to change the diapers alone this time around with Georgina Rodriguez, his girlfriend and mother of Alana, also around to offer a helping hand. In all this, he has always had his three long-time buddies Miguel Paixao, Ricardo Regufe, and Jose Semedo by his side.
At the moment, it’s all love and joy inside the Aveiro dos Santos household!
Now, here are some 33 highlights of Cristiano Ronaldo’s life on his 33rd birthday. Enjoy!
