No matter how intense a Champions League final is, sportsmanship shall always rule.
Cristiano Ronaldo executed a wonderful gesture on Saturday evening in Kiev as favorites Real Madrid took on underdogs Liverpool in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League final.
The fixture was marked by a stroke of bad luck cast on both teams with Isco and Sadio Mane hitting the crossbar and post respectively. Dani Carvajal also exited the pitch injured in the first half but the series of misfortunes all commenced with Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian goal poacher was the face of the Reds’ attack and chances, in the build-up to the titanic encounter. However, his fate on the night recorded only thirty minutes of play as a bad fall saw him bang his head on the ground. Meanwhile, Sergio Ramos was singled out and slammed on social media for what some described as a professional foul on the English Premier League’s player of the year.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah had the chance to fight for the ball…
… before the latter limped off miserably. Reigning Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo went in to console a devastated Mohamed Salah. Heart-breaking but heart-warming scenes of sportsmanship. Liverpool’s official USA account matched the 33-year-old’s admirable gesture by tweeting:

Giant online media outlets Bleacher Report and Goal.com also paid respect to the competition’s topscorer. The official twitter account of the FIFA World Cup did the same.

Cristiano Ronaldo sure knows how it feels to be hit by a game-ending injury in a grand finale. The Real Madrid superstar suffered a similar fate in the 2016 European Championship with Portugal when 2018 UEFA Europa League runner-up and France international Dimitri Payet fouled his knee.
