For some, it might still be too surreal to believe but it has indeed happened. Cristiano Ronaldo is officially a Juventus player. Weeks of speculations and rumors were brought to an end after Real Madrid agreed on a 112 million euro fee (12 million euros in add-ons) with Juventus for the signature of the 33-year-old Portuguese superstar.
The former Los Blancos poster-boy will now don the Bianconeri’s black and white jersey for the new season and onwards after being tied down to a reported four-year contract which will see him earning 30 million euros annually. Excerpts from Real Madrid’s official statement authenticating Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure read as follows:
“Real Madrid C. F. inform that, as per Cristiano Ronaldo’s wishes and at his request, the club has allowed the player to complete his move to Juventus F. C.
“Real Madrid would today like to place on record its thanks to a player who has shown himself to be the best in the world and made his mark on one of the greatest periods in our club’s history and on the world game.
“Cristiano Ronaldo will forever be one of Real Madrid’s biggest icons and will represent a unique figure for future generations.
In the course of Cristiano Ronaldo’s nine-year spell, he became the Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer with 451 goals in 438 games. The Portuguese star also helped the Spanish club in winning 16 titles: including four UEFA Champions Leagues titles in the last five years.
On a personal level, the forward has bagged a host of awards, the most notable being his four Ballon D’Ors wins and all two of The Best Men’s Player of the Year awards organized by FIFA in the last two years.
